I have a computer for my dorm room, but I was thinking about buying a smaller laptop that's very portable so it would be easier to carry around.

All I need this laptop for is basic usage, and note taking. Any suggestions?

(I'm thinking ThinkPad)

Buy a 10 year old mac laptop you can get for like 100 bucks or less, those will do good.

Thinkpads are expensive..

Look at the Asus Eee-PC. There small, light, portable and inexpensive!

No problems!

It runs Linux by default but you can hack it to run Windows.. Its fine for web browsing/word processing.. I was looking at getting one for uni acctually until i decided i need to run photoshop/dreamweaver on it..

Its a neat bit of kit for the price but i recommend you try it out before purchasing.. If you cant, make sure you buy from a company you can return too because some people absolutley hate the size of it!

If you go for a real old laptop for $100 or under some have built in printers. They prove to be very convenient.

yeah, doubt that.

if u have a laptop all ready, then that should be find because any laptop is good for notes really. all u have to do is carry it to class, which isnt that bad.

any laptop is good for taking notes.. portability doesnt have to be that big.. unless it weighs a crap load

Built in...PRINTER?

Laptops don't have built in printers, nor are there any note taking laptops, decent enough, under 100$. Under a thousand, at that. Don't give advice, unless you know what you're talking about.

I use Acer Travelmat 4060 for my essays. I use Jarte, instead of Word.

i got the hp pavilion tx 2000. the screen flips around and folds down so you can take handwritten notes in the notepad program and it will convert it to text if you want. but it recognizes your handwriting and you don't need to bring notebooks around with you, or pens and pencils. it's awesome.

You gotta ask your professors, first, though, if using a laptop is acceptable in class. You can't just go into a class with a laptop, and assume they're okay with it, whether you need use it to type or write. ;)
