When is a 'duty of care' owed in civil law in Torts?
I know what it is, and I know the situations in which it is owed, but in a sentence or two, can anyone sort of sum it up for me?

Like, a duty of care is owed when an individual or group relies on the care of another individual or group?
Something like that.. or something.. I just cant sum it up correctly.

Have another drink and drive yourself home.
I hope there's ice on all the roads.
And you can think of me when you forget your seatbelt,
and again when your head goes through the windshield.

Straight from my NSW yr11 Legal studies textbook.

"The concept  of duty of care exists whereby:

There is duty of care between 2 parties

There is a breach of this duty

There is damage to one of the parties

Time is an illusion
