This is a hypocritical statement given the above paragraph.
It's not exactly hypocritical when you take into account the impact of the whole one drop rule has had on the popular idea of what race is. It'd clearly be just as accurate to label Obama white as it would be black, however people are inclined to disagree because of the impact on that. Moreover, when you have Obama identifying himself as black more than white, as well as having some background in the "black community," considering Obama to be black works for the most part, and it is why people do consider him black instead of mixed. As for the OP, it's interesting how many people will attack whites for voting for McCain simply because McCain is white but not attack the blacks who vote for Obama simply because he's black. Moreover, the percentage of blacks voting for Obama is far higher than the percentage of whites voting for McCain, which is an indirect indication of this. Then again, people will often tell you that it's okay because blacks aren't the majority, blacks don't have the "power" whites do, etc., however, I personally see it as racism all the same.

They consider him black instead of mixed because of his skin pigment. "Mixed" isn't a race after all. I do believe black people were Democrats before this election too. Compare the percentage of black people who voted for Kerry vs the percentage of white people who voted for Bush in the last election. I do agree too much focus has been on race in this election though. Post edited at 4:41 am on July 23, 2008 by Its Bearsy Bitch
