I'm going into 12th grade so I'm deciding where to apply. I have a list that I have more or less finalized with my college and school counselors.

Hopkins, Yale, Northwestern, Wesleyan, Georgetown, Washington University (St. Louis), Tufts, and possibly Dartmouth and George Washington University as safety schools.

What about you guys?

I go to the good ol' CCD, the Community College of Denver. Gotta love underachievers.

I'd like to go to University of Iowa or Iowa State University, or even UCLA or Washington State University. But seeing as my grade point average sucks and I can't afford it, I'm still stuck taking even more classes at Iowa Central Community College.

You must have some pretty good grades little miss.

What do you plan on going to school for. You don't just choose schools because they have a prestigious name, you choose them because they are good in the field you want to pursue.

This fall, I'm going to the local community college.
I still need to look at universities and figure out what I want to do with my life.

I want to save up my money and go up to Washington or Oregon. Maybe join Peace Corps. after JC.

anywhere good and as long as it's not a community college, beauty school or anything for underachievers. No offense but my parents will disown me if I ever went to places like that

Yes, I've geared my list towards schools that are good in political science and law. Georgetown is my top choice because in addition to undergraduate studies, it has a great graduate law school. Plus, being that it's in the heart of the nation's capital, I might be able to get a good internship on Capital Hill!

Ok, good, you've thought about it.

Going to Harvard or Yale would be stupid for Undergraduate studies. Perhaps if you want to get your law degree there, or get another masters after you've gotten your law degree. [hell even a Ph.D.] that would be a good idea, but for undergraduate, you want to look for the best IN UNDERGRADUATE programs.

When I was applying to schools I was looking at the Harvards and Yale's [in 11th grade] and then had a wake up call. I realized that those schools don't have, or don't specialize in Engineering. Then I focused on Engineering schools. I thought about MIT and Cornell, and then realized that THEY didn't have good undergraduate programs for Aerospace studies, so I wound up at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. I mean, its a top 20 school, but I passed up #1 and #6 to go there.
when Graduate school comes around i'll have to look around again [or stay, we will see] to see which offers the best masters and Doctorate programs.
