First of all the "not eating after 8 pm" advice is total myth. The thing is not to go to sleep at least 1hr and 30 min. after eating..after that time, it's ok to fall asleep. I don't quite know about the bread but I can tell you that if you excersise every day for atleast 30 min (I would recomend 60) and you watch what you eat (though don't become too obsessive) you'll lose weight.
I would recomend you run (jog) whatever and you'll see results. Weightlifting is also recomended.
