My minor is Biology, but my major is the great field, and good paying field, of Environmental Science. :D

I've never really understood people who major in "pre-med." Are you trying to show medical schools that there is nothing more to you than that, or what?

Pre-medical (often shortened to pre-med) is a term used to describe a track an undergraduate student in the United States pursues prior to becoming a medical student. It refers to the activities that prepare an undergraduate student for medical school, such as pre-med coursework, volunteer activities, clinical experience, research, and the application process.
Source Med school is tough, it makes sense that they'd only want students who have proven they're hard workers.

No, I know what the intent behind pre-medical majors are, I simply find it to be stupid. It is perfectly possible to take every course required for medical schools while pursuing a major that is more in-line with your unique interests, which in turn makes you a more interesting applicant both on the primary and secondary applications and in the interview proper.

I'm toying with the idea of becoming a psychiatrist or something of the sort. Do tell me, how hard would it be to get into med school with an arts degree?

As long as you take the list of required courses that every med school happily gives you on their webpage, you can major in professional cat grooming and get in. There was a day, long long ago, when it was biology major or bust. Now, all a nonstandard science major means is an interesting story about your interests and a "why medicine" question on the interview. Post edited at 12:03 pm on Aug. 13, 2008 by TheOtherHorseman
