tasers shouldnt be a preferred police weapon
in fact they should barely be used at all

tasers are essentially a passive gun, they evoke little reaction from the public compared to shootings, and are not treated with respect. thus many police will use them when not completely necessary since the repercussions are low compared to using a gun. the only time i could see one as necessary is when the suspect definitely has a knife or something, but this is often not the case

and because the public doesnt really react much, theres not much question to it. what you have in the end is the police being able to force compliance through torture, often unnecessarily with few people really speaking out against it

i say that a taser, in terms of when use is appropriate, should be put very close to a handgun
