dude you do gotta understand their business depends on appearances to some degree, it's company image but all in all it's a numbers game, tomorrow go talk to managers of three other restaurants, dont just ask for an app., say "i'd like to talk to your manager" that way you dont waste time and at the same time show your worthiness by demanding attention
I looked good, though. I just have a trimmed mustache and chin hair. :p She should of said, "I notice you don't shave completely. We like our workers to shave, so would that be a problem?" Not all men shave and I am willing to shave for this job. This isn't America's Next Top Model. It's Arby's. They wear ugly green shirts with food stained black pants.
i bet they'll not complain if a female hadn't shaved Post edited at 1:36 pm on July 18, 2008 by King kong

Um... according to Business Legislation it is illegal to discriminate against people like that. It is mostly based on if you are really qualified for the job, yes they want you to look professional but it isn't essential.

I had an interview at Arby's today at 2 o'clock. I show up five minutes before the interview to show that I can be on time and to look good. I get there and they were busy, so I had to sit for thirty minutes. Not to mention their was a girl also waiting there to be interviewed. She sat down and I shake her hand. She told me it was suppose to be 2:30, but she said 2:00 on the phone. She asked me to tell her a little bit about myself, which I do so. After that, the interview went down hill. She started talking about how they like the employer's to dress. You have to wear black pants, a black belt, and "black shoes that you can polish." She said, "we also like our male employee's to shave and I noticed you haven't. What is up with that? This is an interview?" Alright, I wasn't aware that you couldn't have a mustache during an interview. Then we talked about my previous job. I accidentally put down the wrong amount of time I worked at Shaff Steps. I think she thought I was lying to her, which I wasn't. I told her that I had to leave because the main boss died and the business closed down, which is true also. I worked with my father. she said, "where does your father work? Can you get a job with him?" Wait, that threw me off. Why are you asking me about where my father works and if I can work with him? I didn't ask her that, but I was thinking that. I told her that this was my first interview and I was nervous, since she was pretty much making me feel as if I was not good enough for Arby's or that I was some kind of loser. I told her that I want to work there for more work experience and to save money for college. She said, "Oh, you don't have any grants?", then gave me a dirty look. She talked more about my looks than the job. I felt very uncomfortable and judged. She had a rude comment for everyone of my replies. This sucks, since I need a job.
Relax, sounds like you did fine. I understand how things might look from your poitn of view but to the interviewer you demonstrated: Punctuality Patience Honesty ability to admit to and try to correct a mistake Those are all big pluses. The shaving thing is because in food industry facial hair makes people less hungry. She brought it up to see if shaving your facial hair would have been an issue for you not to judge your facial hair preference. Call back sometime when they aren't busy (4pm maybe) and say you're very interested and if they had anymore questions. Good luck. Don't worry about the grant comment, in fact when you get hired ask her if she knows about any grants you might be able to apply for.

I don't know why she would act like a bitch to you. They can't expect so much becuz it's a fast food restaurant. You will prob get hired tho becuz my interview wasn't so great but got the job anyways. If they picked your application out of all the others then they were interested in you.

I conduct *professional* interviews. Your post pisses me off to no extent. I'm sorry you had to go through such a poor interview process. I wouldn't have taken the job if they offered it to me, in fact, I would have pointed out that this interview shows me how poorly you manager people, and I would ask how long she was in management and why she feels qualified. 1. Do not talk about someones attire or looks. 2. Do not ask about someone's family. Under no circumstances. It sounds like the manager or hiring person at Arby's was an idiot. No interview training, and obviously a poor manager. I dunno, maybe you were nervous or whatnot, but I would have called her on it. Remember, they are trying to sell YOU the position just as much as you want to be hired. If they don't, then it will be craptastic to work there.

She just hates her life working in Arby's and is taking out on you. At least you might not have to work for her.
