And if so I was wondering whether you could tell me what the general concensus on the Brits is... I'm moving to Ottawa for 6 months on a study exchange programme on my degree. I really don't know what to expect.

Does anyone live in Ottawa, or particularly around uOttawa, [near Parliament hill]. Whats the area like?

Oh. And I don't know much French. :S

I'm moving to Ontario as well to go to college. You don't need to know french unless you're moving to Quebec or Montreal.

Also, Canada is British. Canada was owned by the brits before it became Canada. The East is mostly British/Irish/Scottish. The West is more Americanized.

Canada is pretty solid when is comes to people from outta town. thought some people do speak French its more of a English speaking place.... if i remember correctly haven't been there for a few years. have fun though...it should be an interesting experience to say the least

Yeah, french is not necessary. Except in Quebec and no one likes them so don't even worry about it.
And, it's generally a pretty chill place. I don't know so much about that specific part of Ottawa, but definitely do not feel intimidated by the country as a whole.
