Your Christians are so unlike your Christ-Mohandas Gandhi

  Discuss(please not argue, but discuss)

There are none who can be like Christ. We can only try in our own fallible way to follow his example as best we can.

Personally, I think that he was trying to make the point that so many Christians are un-Christ like in that they are hypocritical, trying to pass themselves off as superior because of their beliefs, while they are sinners themselves.

If they do that then they aren't really Christians. All 'Christians' realize that we are sinners, that everyone is. We also understand that we are no better than anyone else.

I guess there's not many Christians in the world, then, lol.

I suppose a few less than the 2+ billion that are usually identified as Christians. How many would say based on your personal experiences? A hundred? A thousand? A million? And are you sure you aren't letting any of your own biases color your perception of those you have met?

No...those that I have encountered truly are a nasty piece of work, such as my ex-boyfriend. I respected his Baptist background, and encouraged his faith. However, he was not satisfied with that. He tried to brainwash me. He patronized and condemned me when I(however respectfully) disagreed with any of his opinions. I was still Catholic at the time...and he saw it fit to, after three months of knowingly dating a Catholic, to find fault with my religion, and dump me. I also think that not blindly swallowing every single opinion of his had something to do with it.

I see myself as fairly unbiased when it comes to religion. I grew up Catholic, and while I don't completely associate myself with the church anymore, I do appreciate and respect my upbringing.

I know I'm not perfect, far from it. But do you find it right for people to patronize and condemn others for not conforming to their beliefs? I believe that God still loves me, even though I am in love with a woman. And I can't tell you how many so-called Christians have done all in their power to try and make me feel like scum for it. Call me judgmental, but I don't see that as very Christian-like. I know not all are like that, but I have lost count of how many are. And it seems like they are getting more and more media attention. It's just...disheartening.

Just because we worship Him doesn't mean we have to behave like Him.  Ideally we would, but we are only human and He was God.

Does that make it right, then, to condemn, patronize, and insult others? I thought that was the point of Christianity, to strive to be like Christ.

Obviously it's not right to do that.  But I haven't met a nun or priest that does that.  You can't say that ALL Christians do those things.

You fucking IMLPIED that.  Seriously, why do you wanna debate things when you're always an idiot?

You said you don't like Christians.  That makes me think you don't like ALL Christians for the reasons you put in your second to last post.

And you don't believe that your experience has made you even a little bit more critical of comments by these 'Christians'? You do seem to be painting with a pretty wide brush. Your ex was a jerk any way you want to define it. Christians can be guilty of that as easily as any non-Christian. We can be hypocrites as well. But that just proves we're human. If we were perfect, Christ wouldn't have been necessary, would he?

It's true of all of us at one point or another.

It's also true that all people suck at one point or another, and Christians will only be entirely Christ-like and perfect when they cease to be people.

I also think that not blindly swallowing every single opinion of his had something to do with it.

As a general rule of thumb, many would not advise others to date those who they do not religiously agree with, even though I am one to do it.  However, when you date someone of a different religious background and it ends because the person thinks you are "eternally destined" for Hell or a fire pit, you shouldn't be surprised

As an atheist, I have dated many Christian girls and have they have given me the ultimatum of "covert or else" and I've told them to keep dreaming.  At some point you have to weight what matters and be prepared to realize that it more than likely won't work out for many.

On the other hand, if you love serial monogamy like I do, then it's wonderful to get in, get out, and get on with your life.  The lack of being a Christian keeps it from being committed - which, for me, is perfect.  If you're looking for commitment, you might want to seek someone like yourself.

I see myself as fairly unbiased when it comes to religion. I grew up Catholic, and while I don't completely associate myself with the church anymore, I do appreciate and respect my upbringing.

If you're going to stay in religious circles, I'd ignore what people call themselves and you can save yourself a headache and a half.  Suggestion:

Matthew 7:16-20

16: Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17: Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18: A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19: Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20: Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

James 2:14-26

4: What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
15: If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
16: And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?
17: Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
18: Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
19: Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
20: But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
21: Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
22: Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
23: And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
24: Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
25: Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?
26: For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Christians aren't even following the Bible anymore. It's ridiculous.

Many Christians are good people and try to live like Christ, but unfortunately there's always going to be those who call themselves Christians yet who do not make an attempt to live like him.  Then theres always a few hypocrites who outright go against his teachings and kill and such in the name of Christ completely against Christian teachings i.e. people who kill abortion doctors because "killing is wrong".

The problem with the world is people will always associate a group with their worse member be it Christians, Atheists, Blacks, Goths, Mexicans, Whites, Muslims, Jews etc
