Not that is of any direct importance to me, since I'm no longer in school, but I just started to notice these wierd ass differences as of late. For instance, swimming is a mandatory subject here in West Europe and you can actually fail your year if you can't swim. But then, we don't get to learn how to drive a car untill our 18th and we have to do that outside of school. Everybody cycles to school here, unless you're physically challenged, then you are braught by a car. And as I understand it, it's pretty normal to be braught to school by a bus in the US. The "Studyhours", we have a single period daily where you get to work on all your homework at school, so that you can ask different teachers for help. AFAIK, there's nothing simulair in the States. There's tons of other differences, but I'm just wondering, why the hell are they there? I thought up untill the college level, most of the stuff would be of a basic level for everybody to know.

EU education is varied all over the place, but EU education is far superior to the US education, at least up until the end of high school that is.

idk. thats one thing i hate about the US. is the education system. its so screwed up. I hate that its mandatory because you get everyone in the same school, the kids who want to learn and the kids who have no desire to be there and just cause problems

Actually, my school taught swimming and you had to pass. If I cycled to school it would take me about ten minutes. If my friend who lives across town rode their bike, it would literally take them two hours. It's just not practical... everything is way too far apart. And we have study halls, and free blocks where you can do whatever you want, including homework and asking teachers for help. Apparently we're not as different as you think.
