Wait until after the first class, as you shouldn't need a textbook on the first class.

Never buy books first without consulting with your Professors. Also, be wary of buying used books both in bookstore and ecpesially online, because I once bought a used textbook online and when it arrived, it was marked beyond belief throughout the book and was not even 1/2 readable for the most part, and I spent like $34.00 at the time, and it was nonrefundable.

Sometimes, the professors aren't listed. One may have quit, or died, and it becomes "STAFF" or "TBA" teaching. Not that uncommon.

There isn't even a teacher listed yet, thank you.
what school are you going to? Cause the two schools I've been to, you signed up for a class by section # which listed the professor, then you are able to find them in the faculty directory. Usually it is best to make sure the editions match. Mostly for ease of finding the page that your teacher is referencing, but the editions are sometimes really different.
this is true. but, when you find out who your professor is, ask them what editions you can use. You might be able to use, say... the 9th edition, instead of the 10th edition, and save 100 bucks.
