However, good luck on getting people to abandon their national languages.  It's never going to happen in the near future.  The closest we can come to is a worldwide second language for everybody to learn, which English is already the de facto second language for that.  The internet is certainly pushing that as well seeing how the bulk of it is in English.

To God I speak Arabic,to my bf Spanish, to girls Italian, to boys French, and to my horse--German lol !
Language is a city to the building of which every human being brought a stone so how dare you say that "PEOPLE ALL OVER THE WORLD MUST SPEAK ENGLISH & IGNORE the rest of the languages ?!"  
The English language is rather like a monster accordion, stretchable at the whim of the editor, compressible ad lib. sorry !

I think it's more of everyone learning another universal language WITH their other one, not forcing  people to only learn one  in particular.

and if you ask me ; knowing one's language (mother tongue) + only ONE  foreign language is not enough !
