They were created when black people, simply because they were black, COULDN'T go to white colleges. And now, the HISTORICALLY black (not CURRENTLY or ONLY black) colleges DO take white students!

GET AN EDUCATION, FOOL.

And we've already had all-white colleges. Look at student bodies before the 1950s or 1960s, you complete idiot.

I'm talking about now. Why is there only a black appreciation month? Why not a whole month for other races.

And I QUOTE from Wikipedia

READ THE WHOLE QUOTE YOU DUMB FUCKERS

There are 110 historically black colleges in the United States today, including public and private, two-year and four-year institutions, medical schools and community colleges.[2]

The Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, defines an HBCU as: "...any historically black college or university that was established prior to 1964, whose principal mission was, and is, the education of black Americans, and that is accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency or association determined by the Secretary [of Education] to be a reliable authority as to the quality of training offered or is, according to such an agency or association, making reasonable progress toward accreditation." [3] Most HBCU's were established after the American Civil War. Lincoln University, PA established in 1854, and Wilberforce University established in 1856 were the only two institutions of higher education established for blacks prior to the American Civil War.

Other educational institutions currently have large numbers of blacks in their student body, but as they were founded (or opened their doors to African Americans) after the implementation of the Brown v. Board of Education ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court (the court decision which outlawed racial segregation of public education facilities) and The Higher Education Act of 1965, they are not historically black colleges, but have been termed "predominantly black." At the same time, some historically black colleges now have non-black majorities, with one especially notable example being West Virginia State University, whose student body has been roughly 90 percent white since the mid-1960s.

I gotta agree with this guy. We call them HBCs, and they're not all black, but they were created for black people when "white schools" wouldn't accept us.

But now, they're pushing for diversity, and white people get a pretty hefty scholarship if they attend.

Then go make one, u suggesting it isn't going to make on appear out your ass. I seriously doubt it will ever happen. There wouldn't even be a reason to make one. All black colleges were created because most blacks were not accepted into prominately white ones. That's y the "historically" black colleges are so old, they were founded in times when we didn't recieve equal opportuniy. It's not like new ones are being made they've been around for decades. Plus any race can get into one.

Christ. There are so many myths about blacks in academia, about affirmative action, about virtually every social or political process or institution, and you fuckers don't even look things up for yourselves. You are being played by your own fucking stupidity, and getting emotionally charged about falsehoods.

Don't be so fucking stupid, fool. I'm just merely asking. I'm not being racist towards you or anything. Take a chill pill, my homie.

There are TONS of scholarships that other people can get that aren't white. Blacks can get them, bisexuals can, hispansics, etc.

And for the millionth time, I'm talking about now.

Because the rest of the months are white history months. When have you ever learned about black inventors, activist, etc besides the month of Feburary in school. And when thry do teach it in school it's always the same people. MLK, Rosa Parks, Damn George Washington Carver. Getting the shortest month of the year is actually an insult, so u should enjoy all your white months.

I'm well aware of why they're there, but why still have them around if they're accepted into other schools now? They should be monuments for your past experiences.

That's not even in the least bit true. You generalize that idea because we have holidays in other months that are white ones. We don't have a month to celebrate all our achievements in one. It's totally bullshit to say "all the other months" are fucking white appreciation month. It's not true.

I never called you racist, I called you misinformed.

As for "now", how can you tell people to destroy their colleges? It's like asking historically white schools (99% of the schools in the country) to disband because they were founded on segregationist principles. (Never mind that the black education segregationists had no other options but to be separate).
As for black history month, you know it barely does a damn thing. All that ever happens is that you go off about MLK and Rosa Parks for five seconds in a school day, see some "African" dance, and then move on. In schools, generally, knowing how shit pre-college education is in the US anyway, you barely learn about black people in history courses, unless they have to do with slavery or civil rights (and they've done things in every sector), so black history month has a place for encouraging teaching about the full range of contributions made by blacks in the US.

Also, black history month isn't a commandment to spout off about black people every moment for a month. There's no chart of "blackness in your lecture" that teachers will be punished based on, you idiottttt

Wrong.

On the 'rest of the months', we learn about what white people did. Rarely, and hardly, do we learn about what the black people did. We learn about those situations on Black History Month. Ya know, just b/c you don't believe it to be true, doesn't make it false. I don't believe in God. Does that mean he doesn't exist? We don't have a month. We have 11 of them.

You're only calling me an idiot because I'm white.

And for your information, I'm in college and we have TONS of black history month activities on campus. So, yeah, I know more than you're assuming.

Don't single me out because I'm white and you think I'm uneducated about your race; because I'm not.

Then explain how you can honestly say "close your school" to the administrators of these schools? They can be monuments of past experiences AND they can be functioning schools for current and future learning. If something was created in the segregation era (Harvard, Yale, again, almost every school in the country), should it be closed since it is a  a monument for past experiences?

You're still in high school. And there are plenty of places to expand your knowledge on black history month. Tons of foundations, websites, books, etc. God, learn of your own race for christ sakes.
