One of the things I miss most about my country is eating good local food. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind the food here (it is edible), but there seems to be so few things that represent good British food.

Sure we have Full English breakfasts, Roast dinners, black puddings, fish and chips, and some others, but the list seems to stop there really.

When we go out for dinner we can choose out of quite a few restaurants. But aside from Pizza Hut and the like they all seem to be Italian, Indian and Chinese restaurants. Whilst that's not bad food, it's still food from other countries and there's nothing that really resembles English culture.

I can go to any restaurant in Hungary and there's so many local and national dishes to choose from that really capture the heart of the local produce. Why is there nothing like that here? Why are British restaurants so non-existent?

Oh, believe me I know that, but it's still food that's not of British origin. Like a derivative.

What about a good old english barbecue? I think the food is icky when I go to other countries.

Our food (when bought at the right places) is more flavourful. Chocolate (cadburies!!!) for instance.

I don't know. Certain foods just have that 'Made in England' feel to them that I'd miss.

How is an English barbecue different from a barbecue in another country?

I'm talking more about restaurant food and big meals rather than confectionary. Cadbury's is all right but it doesn't compare to Swiss chocolate, belgian chocolate or even Milka.

That's not true.
Anthony Bourdain addressed Great Britain's 'lack of cuisine' in one of his episodes. Even I was impressed by the choices, and I'm an extremely picky eater.

I missed that, I'll have a look about what he suggests.

All I know is that you have a dessert called Spotted Dick.

That alone kind of scares me away from trying all other local cuisine.
