What if they happen to be passing in the background glance across and see such a picture, do you think they may wish to investigate further then?
if yoru lucky, they'll investigate further and you may or may not be allowed back on Livewire, if yoru unlucky, they jump to conclusions and ban you immediately.

TEXT IS HARDER TO SEE THAN PICTURES,

Thus pictures and graphics on livewire are more likely to cause parents concern than text...

You assume that most parents are like this and it truly entertains me.
For Christs sake, my little brother sees videos with worse images than this picture.
My mum's never complained, simply because she knows that this media is everywhere nowadays.

You know, not all parents are as stuck-up as you make them out to be.

no all, not even most, but some are. and that means that some children will be denied use of LiveWire for the personal entertainment of one or two members

You're blowing this way out of proportion.
The chances of this happening are slim to none, and losing a mere three or so members really isn't a big deal.
People come and go as they please here, and the rate of new members grows everyday it seems.
As you said, there are members which still strive to support through e-helps, PMs, or Serious Forum replies, or even Unloved Topics replies.
Therefore, a little humor and fun isn't that bad of a harm to the site at all.
We are all still dedicated to supproting our fellow members whilst still maintaining a sense of humor.

So the big hullaballoo about Harry Potter was more about the pictures in the books than the text, I guess.
I dont know how old you are but lets assume or pretend your living at home and your computer is a shared family computer. as you browse livewire do/did your parents keep coming up and reading whats on the screen to check on you?

most likly not, parents dont...

but what if they happen to be passing in the background glance across and see such a picture, do you think they may wish to investigate further then?

So you're saying that what may be 'said' here is of no real importance, but god forbid we get a glimpse of a little too much skin?

There is a big difference between a bit of erotica and disgusting pictures. I know the difference and so does my dad. A picture like the one in the OP wouldn't be one that concerned him much. In fact none of the pictures that have been discussed here would cause him to take away my computer privileges at any age. (And in case you're wondering, yes, I know this for a fact.)

I do realize that a lot of parents don't seriously monitor their child's internet usage and yet would be upset if they happened to see some of these pictures, depending, probably, on the age of the child. And the 'prude' rating of the parents. But suppose they did look over the shoulder of the kid and saw this topic title: "FUCK SHIT"? Do you suppose they would be happy with that? Seldom, if ever, do these ever get moderated. For some reason they don't quite fit the 'guideline'.

But I don't really have a problem, for myself, with either the pictures (like those discussed here) or the text, honestly. I'd just like the Moderators and David to find a consistent position on the site as a whole.

no, what i'm trying to say it this "TEXT IS HARDER TO SEE THAN PICTURES"

I see what your saying here, I think david himself has a very clear picture of where he would like LiveWire to be as a whole. i think the moderators whom have been here for a while also share this image of LiveWire, i do see more issues appearing as newer mods seem far more leanient on some LiveWires rules.

I also think that members CONSTANTLY push the boundaries deliberately to "be cool" or whatever does not help the site.

I'd be very surprised if David didn't have a good picture in his mind of how he'd like the site to function. But it seems he's been distracted by trying to make it more efficient, operationally, and doesn't really oversee, or monitor, what happens on a daily basis. Not being one of the 'Mod Squad' or even an 'SL', I have no way of knowing what may be going on 'behind the scenes', so this is just an impression I've gotten. Mods have the power to delete, hide, trash, whatever, and once done, they tend to support each other. It takes a very good argument in a MER to get them to change the decision that one of them has made. The same thing applies to 'reported posts'. Unless the Mod who reads it is of a similar viewpoint, they can close the report without action and seldom will another Mod reverse that decision. It seems to be a "team" thing.

Yes, members will do that. but that is why there are Mods here. To let the members know exactly where those limits are. That's where consistency comes in. And... rules that are easily understood by both the Mods and the members.

Our rules?

  Shut up.

yes OUR rules, the rules that David, the Mods AND the MEMBERS have created and AGREED TO...

Nobody 'created' them except David, and not necessarily everyone agrees that they're right, they check a box so they can create an account.

Actually This rule especially was created AT THE REQUEST of the members. I know this because i was involved in the topic that brought about the new rule. Believe it or not, some members are still working to slow the degradation of LiveWire and re-instate its supportive theme. Others such as yourself dont care about the aims of LiveWire as a site and organisation and degrade the quality of the site.

in addition, this rule was invented to protect children who use LiveWire from being banned by concerned parents.

think, a 13 year old boy is using LW as he clicks on this topic his mother walks in behind him. His mother see the photo, jumps to conclutions, punishes the boy, bans him from ever using LW again. ......the boy now does not have access to a support website....davjs gets upset that his creation has failed to help one lil boy....davjs goes on a banning rampage and kills several small animals

By that logic, drawn pictures of nude people, however much they may be art, could have the same effect.

depending on the quality of such drawn people, yes it would come under the same rule. Art/picture/photographs of an erotic nature are BANNED from LW.

That was the decision made way back when...

Yet, as discussed within the first couple of pages of the topic, there is at least one known member (Rasta) who has explicit images that, because they were drawn instead of photographed, and are therefore "art", were allowed to be uploaded.

How, pray tell, does that fit in with your rules?

LW isn't even that big an issue.
I mean, think of all the video games people play nowadays.
Killing.  Swearing.  Whoring.  It's all in a video game.
I'm sure parents don't mind it when they see their child playing GTA and the dude is swearing off a storm, shooting and killing and stabbing, and the girls are whoring themselves out.
So... Why would LW bother them much?

Granted, not all parents let their children play certain video games, but the majority of them WILL.

I'm just saying. ...

My point is more to the hypocrisy of some of the moderation on LW, though.
