if so, could you please explain what and how much you have studied and in what areas you have focused on?

Have you read any biographies on the Prophet or on the early Muslims?  Have you read from the primary sources or any Hadith collections?  Have you taken classes on Islam - if so, on what exactly?

What is your conclusion after studying Islam and Muhammad?  If you haven't, what do you think of Islam and Muhammad currently?

One follows descendants of Muhammad while the other follows whoever else.  Not a very exciting difference, so I didn't read too much into it.

There are some other differences - Shia follow different Hadith collections, practice shirk

It's a fabrication propagated for his own benefits; period.

I've studied the historical rise of Islam in conjunction with getting my history degree.  I've also done study on the impact of early Islam on Christian history.

I read pieces of the Qu'ran out of personal curiosity in high school, but the only formal training I've had in that area was an extremely biased literature teacher who assigned sections of it almost certainly in order to disprove it.

I've not had formal (or really informal) study of Muslim theology.

I have read history books on the founding of islam. I have read the Koran almost in its entirety. I have not formally studied it, but have had it presented in several history classes, and in a few other classes but very poorly.

What was the impact of Islam on Christian history?  Have you ever heard that the areas conquered from the Byzantine empire influenced Islamic law vis-a-vis its relations to non Muslims, and the laws the Byzantine empire had regarding religious minorities were in turn left overs from pagan Rome?  So, if you're keeping up, the Islamic laws on dhimmis were actually influenced by the Byzantines and the Byzantines were actually influenced by the Pagans (the last part is kind of a "duh" statement).

fascinating.

I note that you have studied Islam "extensively."  What aspect of the religion do you not find logical?

Mohamed's unfounded claim of divine revelation. Thereon, everything else is simply academic.
