Look I really rally need advice from people in the UK. So i got an email from the merseyside police force and it says that you have to have been resident in the UK for 3 years prior to applying to be a police officer, although their website didn't say it... So I thought I still had the Transport police in hand, but even they need 3 years residence....so I'm not able to join a police force in Britain... FUCK So the only police force I can join is PSNI, and I don't really want to go to Northern Ireland at all. 3 years is a long fucking time to me...its not to you, but I'll be 21. So what are the options? I have no degree offers from the UK, so I cant do a degree for 3 years and then join... I have degree offers in the Rep. of Ireland, but I don't really want to do them... So what the fuck do I do? I mean will I be able to find work in the UK for 3 years? I only have my A level equivalents... And will I defiantly get in the police, I mean I wait three years earning minimum wage to join the police and then get rejected. This could be a big waste of time and I could be left with nothing at the end of it... So please just give me some advice now. Please. Post edited at 5:48 am on Aug. 18, 2008 by ElephantStone

get really involved with them, you don't have be part of the force to get involved, apply for an internship, find out what civilian programs they have, you have 3 years to get on their good side, so get cracking!

Just because you haven't been offered a scholarship doesn't mean you can't get a degree. Everyone CAN get a degree. Take out student loans, apply for financial aid, etc..., and apply for colleges to get a degree in law, doesn't have to specifically be a law degree, but something relevant to your career. Even if you owe a shit ton of money, you can get your career started and pay it back. Starting off in debt, but having a good job is a better track than minimum wage. Once you have your degree, get a job somewhere in the police force, or government involving law, and hope that will set you apart from the other applicants.

Thing is, I dont want a degree. I want the police. But I want a bit of security while Im at a vulnerable stage with money and shit...I mean I dont know where to go first and I want to move to Britain by the end of this month cos the sooner I get my 3 years the better. But Ill be 21...21...no degree, nothing, not many experiences...I mean what if I dont get in...the strongest thing I have going for me is military experience in getting in...
Can you become a voluntary officer or whatever they're called? You won't earn from it, but you'll gain experience that would be favourably looked upon 3 years down the line. You could also decide to study for a degree part-time (loads of places will do that) or some other qualification. You can acquire a lot of skills and/or in 3 years that will make you a very desirable applicant (you could learn another language or get a degree or work in a relevant field or get experience as a voluntary officer or whatever). Or you could apply to Northern Ireland and try and transfer in 3 years. Just 'cos you'll be 21 if/when you join isn't the end of the world. You'll still have 40 or 50 years of a career ahead of you.
------- Down is the other direction.
