I disagree with both.

First. The intellectual test is a joke, it is really just a test to see if the kid is a freaking dumb-fuck or not, and to see if he/she can put together a simple sentence so that the discussions held in that forum are not as riddled with I337 speak.

As for the reason thing, I'm not sure it's that. I would say that an intellectual does not necessarily have to use reason in all circumstances, certainly many who are considered intellectuals DO use reason quite often, however I think that that is more a consequence of intellectualism, rather than a requisite.

When I think of the term intellectual I think of someone who is learned, or at least versed in a wide array of subjects, and reserves his opinion for those times when he can actually offer useful insight or intelligence. I think of someone considered an intellectual as a person who can hold a serious, informed, discussion about really any subject you wanted [not specifically current events, or say, who is a better politician, but rather on politics itself, or government.]

I just see an intellectual as someone with meaningful insight, and supported information. Someone who is reserved and obviously intelligent.
