I got mine when i was 8. A stupid age though, should have got it at about 11 i think. It was the size of a brick, had a plastic arial on it and had an orange and black screen...

I'd say middle 7th grade is all right, but no earlier. It has more to do with how active and busy that youngster is. If he does extracurriculars and has lessons and goes to many diffeent places, he'll need a cell earlier than his school-home-school-home friends

I wanted to get my nephew a firefly one for his 4th birthday and my sister said no. :( I thought he would like it. He has a digital camera and is fine with that.

Anyways, there's no need until like 13 or 14, when you start actually going places without your parents.

Depends on when they need it. If their parents are divorced and they go on a trip by themselves on a plane and when they get back their parent is not at the gate...then yes. If they don't have any extracurricular activities at school and don't get out very often, probably they're too young. In a shorter sentence, when they start going places with friends or by themselves more often.
