Simple: We don't matter.

All we are is another form of stardust.

No, fuck you all.

We are not only important in our own minds; we are significant to the universe. We matter because of what we are.

There is nowhere else in the universe that atoms have randomly fallen in place so as to construct life. Nowhere else where this life thrived and grew, changing into more complex forms. Nowhere else where a species emerged that had the ability to harness electricity and manufacture the object that allows you to ask us all why we matter.

The universe is constantly destroying and creating in a random fashion. Humans are different. We are the only things in the universe that are capable of construction, or destruction, by design.

I for one will not stand idly by while all you fucks make derogatory remarks about the greatest thing in the universe; humans.

I am fascinated to hear of your travels to all corners of the universe that permit you to make such a claim.  As amazing as we are, we are only to a point of knowing a very small fraction of our universe.  To assume that because we are one of a kind within our own known solar system means that we are unique to all the universe is to be rather ignorant.

Even if we assume that we are alone, and that your claims are valid (which there is no way of proving at this point), then we must analyze the blatant contradiction of this argument of yours:

The universe is constantly destroying and creating in a random fashion.

Ok, so starting here we are now operating under the assumption that there is no such thing as divine interaction, and that the universe is put in to place through chance and spontaneity.

Humans are different. We are the only things in the universe that are capable of construction, or destruction, by design.

...and yet here we see that the universe is not in fact random (as we are a PART of the universe) because our ability to perform these tasks are the the result of conscious choice, and not chance...which is the factor you are using to describe the universe itself with.

See the contradiction?

Significance is subjective. If you're insistant upon this whole, in proportion to the universe we're grains of sand on a beach analogy, I could care less for such a pedantic perspective of existence. Relatively, huge proportions of the universe are insignificant to us and indeed other huge parts of the universe.

So we don't really matter in the bigger scheme of things, that's nice... On with the barbeque!

Until intelligent life somewhere else in the universe is proven, we should assume it doesn't exist. By all known standards, the odds of life even developing are incredibly minuscule so it's not inconceivable to say that we are the only intelligent species. Not only that, but if we assume life exists elsewhere, the burden of survival isn't taken as seriously.

I don't have to prove life doesn't exist elsewhere, you have to prove it does. Burden of proof; default state of existence is non-existence.

And mathematical progression obeying the laws of physics, yes.

No. This is my point. This is why humans are amazing. We're a part of the universe but we're not completely random. Just like black holes have laws unique to their own existence, so do humans have laws unique to our existence that allow us conscious choice.

I guess if you want to be a nitpicking little fuck, I'll amend my previous statement to say "The rest of the universe is constantly destroying and creating in a random fashion."

And fuck you Obvious Child, we're a kickass form of stardust.
