Summer ruined by college anxiety?

ugh..

The college of my dreams, Smith College, is weighing heavily on my mind.

I'm kind of like.. the college's stalker. I go on their website, read their information, visit their campus and just feel so comfortable. No other college does it for me.

I'm a first-year applicant, going to be a senior next year, and I can't stop worrying about whether or not I'll get in. My GPA is decent, like a B or a B+.. I got a 2010 on my SATs, and I know that is good.. I have some interesting traits, grew up on a farm, community service and work experience, tech crew for the drama club.. but no academic awards, I'm not president of my clubs or my class...

I just mean like.. how damn hard IS IT to get into college? It seems near impossible, and it makes me want to cry. I have visited other colleges.. I can settle..

but this is my dream.. and it's ruining my summer, thinking about how long I have to wait until early decision on November 15th......

With everything you're doing, you'll be fine. Stop stressing, and just keep your grades up...

Professor's are just people. Professors teach at every university. So who says Smith is better?

I know what you're going through, I'm extremely stressed about being accepted onto a course and like you I basically stalk the university.

I found that the best idea is to first stop the stalking, this'll stop it playing on your mind so much and try to find something to take your mind off academics. I threw myself into writing for a magazine and it's helped me cope a lot better and it gets easier as the days go by.

I really do feel for you, keep us updated anyway! Tell us when you get in ;)

I'll start out with this. College is pointless. I wish I hadn't worried about it so much, which I didn't right before it started, but I did before. It has nothing to do with your intelligence nor does it necessarily determine success, and honestly, the whole 'degree' system is bullshit. If you're smart and you weren't restricted you, or any other smart person could probably learn enough to do well in many professions in less than a year. But it's not really about learning, its more about jumping through meaningless hoops. Really, I think if you took college a lot less seriously, you wouldn't be so worried.

As for getting into college, I had about a B+ average (3.3 unweighted) and slightly less on my SAT's, and I wrote a half assed essay, and I got into a pretty good state school. You can get rejected from a particular college for bullshit reasons though, so I would see if you could expand your options. It's pretty easy to get into COLLEGE itself, especially with your grades, but not some.

I'd say a better idea is to actually not go early and give yourself more time to think.
