So I'm on this trip, and I befriend a girl who is really cool. She and I discuss a lot of things, such as religion and politics, etc. However, one thing came up that we argued quite a bit about. She is a very active supporter of PETA, which many of you may know I am against passionately. One of my reasons was for a campaign they did a few years ago around wintertime called "your mommy kills animals." Now, I agree that killing animals for clothing is bad, and very little of my clothing is leather, and none of it is fur. But I digress.
The reason I disliked this capaign so much was because it involved handing out comic books which had EXTREMELY graphic photographs of animals used in the clothing industry. Essentially, animals skinned alive, bloody etc. And I agree that's the harsh reality of the fur and leather industries.
However, what upset me was that it was being handed out NOT TO ADULTS, but to CHILDREN. CHILDREN were seeing these graphic pictures handed out by the crooked members of PETA.
She told me that children should be exposed to the real world, and how harsh it is.
I don't know about any of you, but I find sacred the innocence of childhood. You need that stage in your life, where everything is simple and beautiful, and you don't have to care for a while. Yes children must grow up eventually, but as long as they are children, I think that they must still retain that innocence that comes with being a child.
Am I crazy? Am I stupid for thinking that being a naive and innocent child is sacred?
