If there is a 90% chance you will have a misscarriage
in your third trimester of pregnancy.

Should you be allowed to attempt reproduction? What if the miscarriage always occurs in the middle of the third trimester?

Everyone should have the right to start a family.

But what if she has like eight deaths before delivery. Eight dead babies all for one to work out?

I agree with you by the way, I'm just popping the question to everyone.

On the same token then can my girlfriend and I use abortion as birth control and then after like eight or nine abortions we'll just decide to have a real kid (then start aborting again).

The pill has disadvantages and if we just let her carry a child for about 6 or 7 months, and then abort, it gives us big windows of no need for birth control of any kind.

Does that make abortions ethical? In a logical sense yes, but we still don't consider the 10% chance which would occur one in 10 couples, so its still killing off a 10% chance of life.

And if this was the norm, it would be worse, since reproduction is much more difficult, the value of a single life increases exponentially since that would be the one single child to actually be born in 10 tries. Any attempt to remove the chance which is already that small becomes more threatening to survival.

The key to victory is the element of surprise.
When that doesn't work, I guess I just gotta gun you down.

No I'm saying if the girl I'm with is perfectly healthy and has a 100% chance of delivering the baby successfully if she went through with the pregnancy, we'd just be choosing to have abortions as a form of birth control for our convenience.

This is a hypothetical by the way, as I'm not even in a relationship at the moment. I'm just creating a perpendicular to the original question that I asked in this thread, regarding the morality of trying to have children when you know that 9 out of 10 of them are going to die before birth.

For my own personal reasons, I don't see why not. It's her body, and her hope/faith that things will work out.

On the other topic, I don't see why anyone would choose abortion as a form of birth control over other, less "go in and have surgery" methods. That just seems like far more effort than is necessary. I mean...swallowing a pill daily versus having outpatient surgery.

You're intentionally killing the fetus though, that isn't really the same as possibly miscarrying.

Iinsurgent saying "you're intentionally killing the fetus" as though it's different than trying to have a child with a 90% chance of failure is questionable.

For instance, if you had ten living developed already born kids and there was 10 bridges and an explorer came by and said "On the other side of that gorge there are beautiful fruits, but wait until we get a new bridge, these ones all have a 90% chance of failing. You tell your kids to cross the bridges (you have ten kids and there are ten bridges so they each go on one).

Is that morally alright? To me it's the same thing,

It should be relatively apparent that the theme of my topic has remained static throughout.

Everyone should have the right to start a family no matter what the circumstances. There may be a 90% chance of miscarriage but there is still a 10% chance the baby would survive and some things are just worth taking the risks
