Last night I told my guy friend about my being raped. It took me a long time to finally get it out. After I did he just didn't say much. I'm afraid this is going to change things between us. Did I do the right thing?

Anonymous: Your guy friend, if he is really your friend, will understand that you had nothing to do with it. In fact if he has half of a brain he'll realize that because that's the definition of rape... What he may try to do, however, is to get you to report it. I am wholeheartedly behind this decision. If you have the facts on what happened, make the person raped you unable to do it to anyone else. Save someone else the pain you went through by getting this guy in a place where he earned his spot.

Yes, you did the right thing. If I were you, I would keep doing the right thing and report it. That being said, the heart of your topic was in your relationship with your friend and I can assure you that you have nothing to worry about. His reaction was normal. That is quite a load to put on someone. As your friend, though, I'm sure he'll carry the weight and help you carry yours.
