Letter to a world that won't write back.
No one will read this, likely. I don't care.

How would you define happiness?

From what I've seen, happiness is those brief moments when you are content with who you are, and everything else around you....when you are at peace with life. But it is only temporary. The true nature of happiness is that it cannot and will not last.. There is too much wrong in the world for it to last. This is why happiness feels so good and is so strongly desired. It allows you to forget about all the bad stuff, just for that one moment.

The main problem here is that if one cannot attain enough of those moments, all the bad stuff takes over. As a result, it becomes impossible to be happy because you cannot forget the bad. And thus life becomes devoid of happiness.

I'm not saying that I myself have never been happy, because I have. It just seems to me that there is no significant reason to fight the bad stuff when all you have to look forward to is a fleeting opportunity to forget about it.

So then why continue fighting? Why not just give in? What keeps us chasing those shreds of peace and happiness that we all seem to be so bent on attaining?

It kind of seems like a pretty pointless cycle to me.

because we're all addicted to it. at one point or another, it was all we wanted. and because we're all pretty stupid, we'll keep chasing the ideal until we die trying or hit a brick wall.

Well
by having happiness rarely it makes it all the more special when you do feel that way

and if we felt happy all the time
then it would just be normal
and maybe then it would not have any feeling at all

Well on that note...
Why live?
I mean we go back right where we started.
the dirt.

So why do we decide to stick around so long for a lost cause?
no matter what we do we have the same fate.

it IS pointless. but we chase it because we want life to mean something. we (most of us, anyway) want to matter, we want to feel like what we do matter and will keep on mattering after we're gone.
it's the same reason we have religion. to fill the gaps that can't be filled any other way.

I have no idea.  And frankly, I'm not interested in finding out.

I rEaLLy like what you wrote!!!!:)
It's sooo real and honest.
I wonder about it myself and find it utterly insane pretty much everyone just keeps the faith that things will get better and they continue fighting, continue existing. I guess it's something built in to being human.
Unfortunately, I am not a saint nor a priest nor even necessarily a bringer of good news and I don't have all the answers.
Honestly, myself, I have given up. Completely.
I love this quote from the movie Memoirs Of A Geisha (2005):
"The heart dies a slow death
Shedding each hope like leaves
Until one day there are none
No hopes
Nothing remains"

The best I can say is...you're a beautiful girl, you're still young. You still have an excellent chance things will improve so greatly! All hope shouldn't be lost for you yet, honey. It's too soon for you. Hang in there and I do truly honestly with all my heart believe things will get so much better 4 U!!!! I do believe that!:)
Hang on. You'll see...:)...

We try to delude ourselves into thinking there's a point, when in fact there really isn't any point at all.  You live, then you die.  Life sucks.  Doubt death is all that better.

So does it boil down to basically what is worse?  Life or death?
