I'm thinking fuel duty tax and the yearly vehicle tax increases specifically here. Taxing people with older, more polluting cars at a higher rate than those with newer lower emissions cars is stupid. Might seem like a good idea, but its not going to stop people from driving the cars they own. Its not fair to tax people just because they can't afford an expensive hybrid. (Same goes for congestion charge which I believe hybrids are excused from)
And the ultra high fuel duty tax is supposed to discourage us from driving? I find that laughable considering driving is not a choice, and there is no alternative. If the idea was to reduce emisions and congestion then why does it cost me £4.50 for the 12 mile round trip to my town centre and back on the bus - whereas if I go by motorcycle it costs me less than £2 in fuel. Wheres the logic in that? If buses worked out cheaper I'd use them.
I honestly don't care about being "Green" (nor does the government) - but I do care about affordable motoring. It really annoys me that people blindly accept and vote for unfair "green" tax bullshit.
Stop using climate change as an excuse to tax us. I'd be less upset if the 72% tax we pay on petrol actually went towards alternate energy sources or public transport. You know, "Green" changes.
The people in charge are corrupt morons.
