These are usually the numbers that your router has set. LinkSys uses 192.168.1.1 as the primary DNS in their routers, I think Netgear might use 192.168.1.254 but I could be wrong. You can find it in your router's administration page.

Start --> Run ---> cmd.exe ---> ipconfig /all
this. Most likely 192.168.1.1 or something like that under "DNS Servers"

Wrong! You can set it to use your ISPs, but thats normally a little slower than other servers. I personally like OpenDNS, which is ALWAYS 08.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
I doubt he'd have set up a custom DNS if he doesn't even know what it is. But that is good to know.
Hes asking what the numbers are that you put in there. Those are numbers you can put in there, they will work. You dont need any additional set up, aside from putting those numbers in.
this is also true. is opendns fast? i was considering using it a while ago but i've long since forgotten.

I have found it to be faster than Verizons DNS servers. It does cache some, but I never had problems with it. In fact, my friend has more problems with his Comcast cache (which is slower than openDNS's) than I ever had with openDNS. If you do have problems, just log into your CP, and tell it not to cache that sight. They have a huge database of sights, and types of sites that are OK to cache, and ones that are NEVER to be cached. It works really good.
