I apologize for continuing the tradition of Christianity vs. Islam that seems to be so prevalent in this forum, but I have been wondering this for a while.

Does the modern Christian see Islam as a threat to the security of Christianity in the world? I have talked to many people who call themselves Christians and I have also seen the posts of people in this forum (granted these people are generally idiots who think they are on an Internet crusade), and it seems that a lot of these Christians hold a very low opinion of Islam, many going as far as demonizing the religion. I realize that Christianity, as a whole, is very exclusivist in terms of the doctrine of salvation, but it seems like I see more Christians bashing Islam than other religions.

Yes, because American Christians don't understand either Christianity or Islam and only see actual Muslims on the news as being terrorists or "extremists."

Well, I couldn't tell you, because I'm an Atheist, but why would Christians see Islamic as a thread? They're two separate religions, Islam, if I remember correctly..has nothing in common with Christianity? I'm probably wrong, but I'm just confused.

I've not experienced that, at least not here.  I imagine that in parts of the world where Islam is a greater demographic than in the American South, it might be the case (though you don't live far from me).  To me, the biggest "threat" - that is what most Christians are aggressive toward - is atheism.

Well, Islam is experiencing a population surge right now and studies show that Islam could very well surpass Christianity to become the world's most practiced religion in the very near future.

to be religious surely you must have faith and unbridaled belief in your religion and must therefore believe it to be true and right... surely that would mean that they do not see any other religion or belief as a threat if they truely think they are right.

No I don't really see them as a threat. They can believe what they want to believe in! They will realize it at the end of time though...

Why would they/we? Religion isn't a competition to see who can have the most followers, and whether Christianity is true, Islam is true, or something else entirely is true, that faith will be true no matter how many people believe it.
