Tammy Grimes is the founder of an organization that helps rescue abused dogs and rehabilitate them into better homes, it is called Dogs Deserve Better. On September 11, 2006, Tammy Grimes was arrested for taking Doogie from his backyard. Why did she take the dog from his backyard? Well, I'll tell you. Tammy had been getting calls about Doogie for a while. He had been laying in his owner's backyard for days, not moving. He was alive, but he hadn't been fed, had no water, and he was chained up. When Tammy got there, she inspected him, and found that his chain had become embedded into his neck because he had been on it for so long without being taken off. Tammy only resorted to these actions after the local Humane Society refused to do anything after being contacted repeatedly by neighbours who later contacted Tammy, and by Tammy herself. Tammy let everyone who contacted her know that she was not an officer of the law, and that if she took the dog, she was, technically, breaking the law, even though the dog couldn't even get up because it had been so weak from being so abused and neglected. When Tammy Grimes was arrested, she was only released after given bail of $50,000 (yes, that is what the judge thought this case was worth). Her supporters also had to take down her Cafe Press website supporting her decision, because the judge said that any memorabilia supporting her decision was in bad taste. Talk about your freedom of speech laws being ripped away from you, huh? So, what do you think? Should Tammy Grimes have been arrested, and treated this way (her case went on for years) simply because she rescued a dog from an abusive owner, and took it to the vet's office to get it the care that it needed? Is that really what our society has come down to today that this is how we've come to treat our animals? I am aware that animals are property, but they are also alive, and them being property doesn't mean you can treat them however you want. That being said, you are required to take care of them to a certain standard, and if you fall below that standard, I thoroughly believe that you relinquish your rights to that animal. I think that's completely ridiculous... I agree with what you said, that just because you own the animal doesn't mean that you can treat it however you want to. Why didn't the judge consider laws against animal abuse?

i think she should have contacted local authorties about the problem so it could have been taken care of but she wouldn't have to break it law. but all in all she didn't deserve that much of a bail

I don't think it was right that she was arrested. she was only doing what was best for the dog.

I think what she did was right, but then again she could have handled it better imo. She made a site and everything over a dog. Did she talk to the owners about it, I'm sure she probably did. I realize animals should be treated well and all, I love my dog, but it was a little extensive.

What do you mean 'she made a site over a dog'? She is the founder of an organization that rescues dogs, and she had that settled long before this dog came along. Either you're mixed up, or ... I don't even know.
She had her own site yes, and her job before that, I read the article, I realize that. But didn't it say she made a cafe press site just over that one dog? Or supporting her decision for that dog? Post edited at 12:12 pm on July 5, 2008 by californication

No, I said her supporters made products that supported her decision regarding this dog, which the judge made them take down from the Cafe Press website.

Well then there was a website about the one dog, regardless then right?
