I can't seem to decide what I should ask mom to get me for Christmas.  
A video camera would be nice since I have lots of ideas what I could do with it. A laptop would be nice also but it's not a very important item right now. When I go abroad in a year I'd give it to my mom and get a new one anyway since she's planning to go abroad as well and she will need a laptop. I just don't know right now. What do you think?

Well whichever one is more useful to you. Personally a laptop is far more important for me because I don't make many videos, and I have a DSLR for photos.

A video camera makes more sense for you if you'd have more things to do with it, the laptop sounds like a nice extra, but I'd probably choose the video camera if I were you. It's a personal choice though, which do you think you'd get more use out of.
