I do it. With everything that goes wrong and I get that lump in my throat and my eyes fill with tears, I hold back. I push down my feelings to the point where I feel numb. And I never realized its effects...consequences rather, until this morning.

I was laying in bed about an hour ago, feeling extremely depressed. I got up to go to the restroom, and I looked into the mirror and burst into tears. I felt myself trying to bottle it up again, but for once I decided to let it all out. It felt so horrible, all these memories coming back that had once caused me so much pain. I was reliving all my mistakes for a whole hour. I never knew how loud I could cry until now. For an hour I was histerically loud, crying into my pillow.

I feel very relieved now, but I still have so many suppressed feelings that I know I'm going to let out at some point. I'm dreading it.

That happens to me.

It feels good for the time being, but like a day later, I'm still upset.

When you get that lump in your throat and your eyes are tearing up... it's a failure to bottle up emotions. It isn't part of the act of bottling up emotions.

I'm not sure whether the experience was good or bad for you so haven't got much else to say.. but it's probably not helpful for you to think that forcing yourself not to cry or lose it is the same as successfully bottling up emotions. Both sides has its merits.

I do the same thing, except instead of it ever being expressed, I let the lack of emotional interpretation completely control me, and as a result, I have the tendency to make some of the worst decisions that I'd never make otherwise.

I just don't express negative emotions. I can't; I don't know what it is, but I can hardly cry, yelp in pain, etc. It's weird. =/
