Time to sell on the strategic oil reserves?

I saw something on tv recently that got me thinking.

The three biggest problems with oil right now are:

supply
speculators
the dollar

Why not hit two of these problems at one time?

If the us government dumps a good chunk of the oil reserves, they would be expanding the supply and with the batshit crazy prices that oil is going for these days, there would be a huge net revenue to help pay off debts in the government.

Sure there will only be a small dent in the price of oil, but paying off a good chunk of deficit and/or debt will go a long way to boosting the dollar back up to where it belongs.

the bigger issue is the dependence on oil. Aside from the environment, empires fall when they can't support themselves.

I like that...it would probably be good globally too...

Alternatively, another way to kill two birds with one stone, as it were, would be to turn some speculators INTO oil. Have you not considered this, whoisabs? Actually that's 3 if you go on from there with your plan to use the revenue to pay off debt. Ok I'm kidding, obviously. But yeah, good idea.

The only problem I can see with that, is that the US likes to hold on to vast reserves of oil and gold. In case of any economic backlash or global economic crisis, they're well prepared. It's like sending your reserves into a charge, even though you know they'll make some ground.

Once the dollar goes back up and the price of oil goes down, then the government can resupply the oil reserve.

Sometimes you gotta spend big to win big.

Maybe...Perhaps cashing out on oil now would be wise, whilst the infrastructure for alternatives is not yet widely available...

That's pretty sneaky though. Sell it. Cause the price to go down. Buy it back more cheaply....then sell it again, I suppose. Ha! Why not? Somehow I don't think it's that simple though.
