Okay, why do people think that getting rid of guest submissions will make a difference?

Have you noticed the number of guest submissions we get?

It may not make a huge difference, some guests become members, and then make another e-help. However, if you're a guest, you CAN'T post in the forums. I would assume that at least some of them might try the normal forums first... or otherwise, they may not bother making the e-help if they don't think it's important enough (and not to mention we could avoid the spam)

I agree here.  Guests cannot post in the forum which practically leaves them no choice but to send in an eHelp if they have anything on their mind.

But some of those guest eHelps are such nonsense. They're not emergencies, at all.

Exactly, but as a guest, that is the ONLY option you have.  You can't use the forums, you can't PM anyone... you only have e-help.  Some of them just want someone to talk to or tell their problems to.  Some of them just do it because they're bored.  But if you have to actually go through the sign up process, then it would most likely reduce the numbers, or push some of those e-helps into the normal forums.

push some of those e-helps into the normal forums.

is that supposed to be an argument against denying guest submissions? because that is a wonderful thing if they can resolve their problem in the forums

david made it so signing up for this website is like a 20 second procedure (also the reason why we get so many trolls)
if they're bored they join the forum, they don't post an ehelp that the support leaders jump on because it's easy points and they don't vote to delete, and they feel like they're done their one ehelp of the day so they skip the actual productive ones
the "but the guests have no other optIoN!!!!!!" argument simply holds no water

I think they should be really persuaded to join, and reminded that eHelp is only there for emergencies.

I also think we should have a "report eHelp" button. That way, if an eHelp is really not an emergency, an online moderator can delete it quickly, rather than have to wait before enough SL's have voted on it.

Oh, and the eHelp system's minimum replies need to go up to 3. I know it will create MORE new eHelps, but 2 replies often isn't enough.

No, that's a reason for denying guests.  If a question can go to the normal forums first, then it's better that way.

I've been thinking about that.  And I mean, when you answer one e-help, it does reduce your number... so technically it would work.  But then again, maybe get the flashing to stop at 2 replies, but only get the light to go gray when there are three replies (And also have it show up when you click the 'New only' button)

Would it be feasible to be able to 'move' an eHelp into one of the support forums from the eHelp system. The poster may be discouraged if they find their eHelp has been deleted, so if you could 'move' it into a support forum where anyone could reply (or even TSF if that is kept) and send them a message or email, then it could reduce the eHelp load while satisfying the originator.

I like the idea of removing guest e-helps. I cant remember the last time I answered a serious guest e-help. we have annonymous posting for that very reason.

Also I like the idea of a report e-help button, or better yet, a mod whose job was e-helps. Sort of a glorified SL whose only job was keeping track of the ehelp area, much like we have a dictionary manager and a contest manager.

i can't think of one situation where an ehelp was deleted that was support topic worthy

because if it's a current member that wants to remain anonymous they can just pick anonymous

the guests would have to come back to the website another time, a website whose layout they are unfamiliar with, and somehow figure out that their eHelp is in that little eHelp forum we have.

I think the number of people that actually come back and check their guest submitted ehelp is close to 5%.

they don't have to come back; they get emails.

Sorry I disappeared, I was trying to go to sleep again. ><

Anyway, I stick with what I've said before. I understand that obviously there are flaws, but there are in every idea, so please add mine to your list just in case. :)

Yes, once a long time ago. Haha. I'd love it at 4, but that isn't feasible anymore.
