I so see your point. Its too easy to trick people into thinking everything sucks, so someone will pay attention

You're just as bad, y'know. "I have schizophrenia, my friend has aspergers, my aunt has OCD. They were tested with it" Why does a doctor have to tell you what you have or do not have? If only a doctor can validate these conditions, then they do not exist in any real form. If you aren't autistic until a doctor says you are... Let the people be what they want to be. Who cares if they are merely associating with a group because of some real or perceived attitudes or actions that they perform? If jenny has to organize her markers by color, size and thickness, then let her be OCD; it does nothing to you.
And yes it does do stuff to me, it just shows how lightly people take this stuff, how easy they can just label themselves, when in actuality they don't know the seriousness of it

The guy with aspergers, it's a form of down syndrome, easy to test for.
Aspergers is in the Autism spectrum... it's not even close to down syndrome, which has to do with chromosomes. I was with you for a little until I read some of your arguments. As someone who studies these disorders, I do dislike when people tend to self-diagnose for silly reasons. But as perviously stated, it is always a possibility that they are correct.

And not realize what else is out there? They can deal with their issues in a lot of better ways than just diagnosing themselves
Like cutting, drug abuse, or lashing out at others.
Even if they diagnose themselves, they still aren't taking meds, they are still in the same state of mind, who says that once they diagnose themselves they wont cut or anything? That will probably give more reason for them to do that. If they think they have a disorder, they will just assume they are more fucked up and want to abuse themselves or others. All diagnosing yourself is is a block to the real world. It doesn't deal seriously with anything, and it doesn't help. Post edited at 3:28 pm on July 3, 2008 by californication
