Except it's not, not any more than the seasonal flu, and I'll thank you to show recent evidence that says otherwise.
Look at any BBC article on it (can't be bothered to go through them all) and it claims it affects the respiritory system more than seasonal flu, thus putting a larger number of people at risk. Also the fact that we have no immunity against the new strain makes it mroe serious. I'm sure the people at the WHO know what theya re doing, and if it were just a case of the sniffles would not be wasting so much money. They are also pretty sure that a second more virulent wave is coming in the winter http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8021958.stm Look at that for starters then you can have a look around.
The death rate for the seasonall flu is well over 34000. The death rate for this pandemic is barely at, what, maybe 200, and it's lessening. They do not compare. They're wasting moeny, creating panic, and oh look, suddenly the pandemic is not as bad as they thought it was. Suspicious. *sigh*

Its actually not slowing down but spreading in the US. And those figures are annual figures. In a years time we will be better able to compare. They cannot just waste money, these things will have gone through many levels of the WHO and many many docotors and specialists will have been consulted. You people are acting as if they have just plucked this out of nowhere. These people know what they are talking about.

I'm sure they do, particularly as they've said, as recently as this morning, that it's not that bad: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090504/ts_nm/us_flu_who_pandemic
"Level 6 does not mean, in any way, that we are facing the end of the world. It is important to make this clear because (otherwise) when we announce level 6 it will cause an unnecessary panic," she told Spanish newspaper El Pais. ... On Sunday, a WHO spokesman said the relatively large number of infections in Spain of what has been commonly known as swine flu -- at 40, according to the WHO's count -- seemed to be mainly "imported" cases involving people returning from Mexico, the epicenter of the disease outbreak. Chan echoed this and said that so far, there were not many flu patients in Europe that have not been to Mexico or had direct contact with those who had.
I mean, seriously...good grief! The sky is still not falling, and there's no need to wring our hands and weep until we know what this thing is going to do. It's most likely going to be another seasonal flu, maybe a little bit more widespread because of the lack of immunity, but as you'll notice that people in countries with somewhat decent healthcare systems aren't dying, I think you should relax and go worry about something else that can be panic-inducing. Like global warming. And no, it doesn't make it less tragic that the child was from Mexico; what it makes it is false reporting. The way it's been reported has suggested that it was an American who died, which is not the case. And yes, it does make quite a lot of difference, as much difference as it would make for someone who'd had bad healthcare all his life to go to the world's greatest hospital to get treatment and die within.

Wrong. The CDC stated, yesterday, that the cases were decreasing significantly.
And those figures are annual figures
What's your point? It's still quite comparable.
They cannot just waste money, these things will have gone through many levels of the WHO and many many docotors and specialists will have been consulted.
Yeah, they can waste money, through unecesary research, broadcasting of media, and panic.
You people are acting as if they have just plucked this out of nowhere. These people know what they are talking about.
It did just kidna appear. The cure rate for the swine flu is, give or take, a week. The seasonal flu can be far more deadly.
Can I have your source for the CDC please as all reports I have seen say that the flu is spreading showing no signs of slowing in the US, and over here we have not yet reached the peak with new cases being confirmed everyday. Maybe you misread as reports claim the virus is curbing in Mexico but not in the USA or Europe.
