And its the only OS on this pc, if I try and install vista for duel boot, will it over write 7, even if I do it on a clean partition,

From what I gather even if you do it to a clean partition, you cant install an older OS without it going over the newer one, this true?

thanks

you'd have to do it on a seperate partition, but don't.

just leave 7 as the only one.

when i installed 7 and vista, it totally fucked up my computer, wouldn't start. took me 2 days to fix it

is there some way i can merge the partition i made then, at the moment i have 3,

7 is on one, and the other 2 blank, but i can only see one of these other 2, (im guessing because i set one as a proper 3rd partition), so can i merge those other 2?

It's definitely possible--Lifehacker has a feature on how to do it. If you mess things up, you only need to install a boot manager (like GRUB) to get things working again.
