I think it's just there so teens feel like they have some control over their life.

I single-handedly toppled my class' mock Parliament, which was much fun. Student government is potentially interesting, depending on how much power you have. From what I've seen, most student governments don't actually have any real power and are just a way of keeping students busy, which is boring and pointless.

I hate my college's student government but that's just cuase they keep using our student fees to pay for vacations for themeselves under the label of exploratory trips or needing to get away from distractions to make important decisions. They also used a ton of our money to put window tint on their office windows! Everyone here pretty much hates them and thinks they are a joke unless they are a part of it. I'm just pissed off that I have to pay them a couple hundred dollars every semester so that they get to have fun. You rarely hear of anything good they actually do and the attendance records that are on file show that the majority of them rarely ever show up to meetings. What the hell are they getting paid for? grrr... everyone is angry at them. It may be better where you are at though. Good luck and don't act like the ones at my college!

Being in the SGA allows you to get involved and interact with the students on campus. It helps improve leadership skills, allows you to work with others, and helps you voice your opinion. It also allows you to be creative, and solve problems.

Anything with leadership is awesome because you get to control the rest of the student body like pawns on a chess board.  Got a problem with that, pawns?  Yes?  Too bad!  The people who are apathetic/resentful of such organizations don't generally vote and so you don't have to worry about what they want.  It's just like in real world politics.

How does the quote go?  something like "Conformity achieves little, but rebellion often achieves nothing"

No worries

At Everett CC, our student government seems to be getting really strong. When I first started attending school here, almost three years ago, it hardly seemed like anyone was partaking in their options in the ASB. The entire student body had the option to vote on adding a technology fee to our other class and lab fees, and of the almost 10,000 student body, approximately only 500 students voted. It seems to be alot better now.
