i used bitcomet for years and it uses a small amount of memory, and downloading stuff through torrents shouldnt slow down your internet unless your on DSL or some pussy shit.

Well obviously, hes stupid and cant set it up to use the correct type of router and hence bandwith. Its slowing me down - lagg in all online games has shot up and him and i are the only internet users on atm.
