I didn'T know you could actually spend that much money on fish...

New tank: $900
Food: roughly $50
Plants: $50

That's already $1000

Medication, water treatment, other chemicals: $100
Tank decorations to keep them happy: $100
Assorted invertebrates to keep the water quality good: $25

What's that, like $1250?

The other $250 were spent on assorted crap, tank cleaners, nets, hoses and pipes and such.

They're very, very spoilt fish.

But compared to how much you put into it already...? I can't see how that is making you money. I don't know how often Platies get pregnant or anything, but it would take quite some time to make back all that you've spent on them.

BUT I can tell it's mainly a hobby, and that usually is worth it.

3 female platies + 2 male platies?

That's about $500 every... 3 or 4 months?

I also plan to do the same for guppies.

No, not a business. But darn, it's fun.

Hah, cool!

I'm gonna try to get a water python sometime in the near future. Having my own ecosystem in my living room makes me feel like playing God, lulz.

Plus I gotta put both tanks to use somehow

Besides, I don't really care about making money. They're pretty, they're starting to develop very different personalities of their own, and it's cute watching them fight over food.

Lulz. They're actually very intelligent animals, and can become tame. You just have to try to get them young, some of the larger ones can be very strong. I know someone who's had her python grab her arm in a vice lock and refused to let go until it was fed.

We used to have a carpet python, but the fucker escaped It was about 2m long, too. Soo

He basically just wants a snake he can handle whenever he wants. :S So I'm a little worried he might not actually be able to handle it. And for some reason, he won't settle for something smaller for the time being.

See if he can get a small python. Not only are they easier to manage, and very much cheaper, he can also find another home quite easily should he choose to not keep it.

I don't know about Australia, but pythons are not natural in this area. More like copperheads, rattlers, and queen snakes.

Yeah, pythons aren't indigenous to this part of Australia either.

Urgh, poisonous snakes really aren't good to keep for a first-timer.
