I can't decide whether, as okay the film was, whether reading the book would be a complete waste of my time.

Because Chuck Palahniuk has never come across as anything more than a douche to me.

I've heard nothing but good about the book, but a lot oft things are supposedly different in the movie.

Personally, I loved the book and the movie. If you've seen the movie, you're not really in for a lot of surprises in the book, but I thought it was worth it anyway.
