In the large cities, is it easy to buy (reasonably healthy) cheap food on the go? I wanna know this for planning my budget. I'm thinking about corner stores where you can grab a sandwich or roll or salad. Examples about what i consider easy: Extremely easy: Asian cities where you can buy hot meals on the street without much of a line Easy: New York, where you can always find somewhere to get a sandwich (convenience stores, starbucks, subway, mcdonalds) Pretty easy: Downtown LA, where you can find stuff but you might have to walk a block or so, not just anywhere you happen to be Not easy: Kansas. Wtf. Post edited at 9:59 pm on Nov. 22, 2008 by tell me again

There are a LOT of places you can grab sandwiches, rolls and salads. Supermarkets tend to be good places to go, cheap and they do healthy lines. There are other places too... quite a few of the places you mention are over here (e.g. starbucks). I never have a problem finding stuff for lunch wherever I go. Depending where you go you can also find cafes that do nice sandwiches at reasonable prices.

Theres load of fast food places in the UK you can grab food on the go for relatively cheap. Try Gregg's they do the best sandwiches and you'll pay about £2.99 on average for one.

The UK has bad food I heard. No one ever talks about London cuisine as something special. Go watch Bizarre Foods on the Travel Channel the UK's Episode.

I'm not going to UK, I just thought UK was the biggest European lot on LW, and who may have travelled to other parts in Europe. I'm going to Spain, Italy and France.

We don't have many corner stores here in Estonia, just supermarkets (which are cheaper than corner stories anyway). I've seen the same thing around Europe in the countries I've been to (Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany). Big supermarkets in different parts of cities, but not like every few blocks. There are some smaller shops in Poland and Germany though, then again not every few blocks. But there are always places on the road!
