I am an African American.
My friend is White as an egg and can be considered an African American. He's from South Africa. If you trace anyone back far enough - we're ALL from Africa. Therefore - African American means nothing to me and I won't use it.
I don't like being called Negro and we all have our preferences.
I don't like being called anything but Grandmaster Lamprecht - you going to refer to me as that? I don't want to be considered "Caucasian" but "Aryan" - you going to do that? If you didn't know "Black" used to be an insult to Negroes. How many times do you change your name? Colored, Negro, Black, and now African-American? What's next?
Even though In Spanish "Negro" means black, you notice how no one uses that to describe black people and how I don't use that to describe black people =/
I use it to describe Blacks and it has been used historically (And the origin is Portuguese - though similar to Spanish)

Well of course everyone came from Africa! The first bones of early humans were found there. The point is, no one uses the term negro anymore. You just want to be hard headed and cause up unwanted controversy by saying Negro instead of blacks. Well unfortunately no one calls the whit race Grandmaster Lamprecht in this day and age. They do however say black and not negro. It's not the word that gets me, it's more of the fact that you think you can say it without others getting at you. I don't know if you have said it to random blacks or whatever but there are people that just rather be called black. Also stop doing it again, stop making me out as if a race is a whole. " How many times do you change your name? Colored, Negro, Black, and now African-American? What's next? " Well I wouldn't know because my name isn't "African American"

But what's the difference between a Negro and a Black? Answer that - WITHOUT the use of history of terms.
It's not the word that gets me, it's more of the fact that you think you can say it without others getting at you. Negro is a race. I will refer to the Negro race as Negroes. I've said it to people (Blacks too) and they don't care as much as you.
Well I wouldn't know because my name isn't "African American"
The name of your race.
Again, it's not the word that I care about, it's the fact that you would rather use it in this day and age. It would really make you stand out =/
