Hurting animals is often an indicator of hurting people later in life. I don't understand the term "numb rage", but I'm not a counselor or shrink. But from what I got out of your post, you might be numbing all the feelings that would normally hurt you but reversing them outward again toward animals. This is obviously not a healthy way to be for you or people, or animals, which are both innocent of doing you wrong and are powerless against you. So it sounds like you are deflecting pain away from yourself (normal reaction of course) but your anger at whatever is causing you pain (anger is also normal when in pain or threatened) is being re-directed outward . Your powerlessness is being translated into hostility and violence against powerless animals...and later, quite likely, people. I hope you have a good counsellor; a psychologist might be better trained to help you.

Is there really that much of a difference? I don't think someone that hurts animals to get out their rage is any better than someone that does the same to people.

haha, yeah right. let me try to simulate the pain and suffering with people that you'll be surrounded by. even though you are restrained and set away from the "outside" world that or any kind of treatment won't help you. only you can help you , no one knows what you think execpt you. I've known people with worse conditions than yourself the way you are descirbing things.
anger is not the only thing I have going on. I'm schizophrenic. I'm only high functioning right now because I just got off of my antipsychotics. It's already starting to get bad again. I know I will end up in the loony bin one day. All it takes is letting me loose in the streets when I'm having one of my psychotic freak outs.
