If you've ever worked at Walmart, or have shopped there, you should understand this. The story involves 3 sets of people: the cashiers (self explanatory) the CSM (me) (the hourly supervisors over the cashiers--the ones that are up front carrying around keys and the palm pilots that beep) and my assistant manager. (again self explanatory)
Now, I assume this is the same at all Walmarts--each asst manager has an area of the store to cover--front end, receiving, fresh food, grocery, TLE, home fashions, etc.
Thursday night, I was closing and the girl I was to be closing with called off. So I was by myself from 5 pm to 10 pm. The Steeler game came on at 8, so after that it'd be a nice easy night. We have a good sized store, which means we are generally busy. We were busy that night, but not so much I wanted to kill myself.
So my manager had to cover my lunch that night since there wasn't anyone else. Now considering she's the MANAGER OF THE FRONT END you'd think she'd be very involved with how to do everything. OH HELL NO. I was gone for the hour for lunch, I had so many people ask when I was coming back because she was doing so bad. She's normally in one office or another, sitting down and we barely see her. We get told "why is this this and this done?" but she never sees how the front end is run.
She should really have had no problem that night--there was more than enough people to cover, yet people were going home late.
I, and a couple other of my fellow CSMs giggle over this so much. It made my week. Oh, and she normally tries to get someone other manager to cover the front end.
