Say smart drugs are effective and you have managed to find some doctor who'll prescribe them, do you think its unethical to use them to improve your grades?

If it's legal then it is ethical, if it gave an unfair and unethical advantage then it wouldn't be legal for students.

I believe it's unethical to NOT use them to get better grades. If it's there, we can use it. Those who don't are obviously not working to their full potential. Or if they are, they're doing it in a much, much more difficult way.

A way that I choose not to walk on.

It might be, for instance there will probably be a lag between the development of effective smart drugs and the decision of schools to ban them.

I think being all that you can be is always going to be a good thing. I really don't see that it's competition in a classical sense anyway as you. Fundamentally, the purpose is that you learn. If that helps to that end, then it's a positive.

i think the education departments need to recognise the fact that soon they will become more readily available, and so they need to start finding out if it's fair or not.
i think it really depends HOW the drugs make you smarter.

It's no more unethical than using coffee to pull an all-nighter or taking advantage of a family member who was born and raised in France by asking for help on your French homework.
