Too far for what? For visiting every weekend or visiting a for holidays? I think it also depends on how much you actually want to visit your family.

^^I agree. If you are only going home for the holidays then I don't think it matters much. But if you are really close to your family and want to visit regularly then yes-def too far.

It really depends if you mind driving that far. I don't think it's too much: you just won't be home often. I only live three hours away and sometimes wish I was further away :S I have friends here that are international students that only go home every two years. Suddenly 11 hours isn't looking too bad.
