It is true here. But, then again, they either come from New York or their original country/island. They even speak of places, in New York, that only have Spanish speakers.

There is china town, little italy, etc etc etc.
There are a bunch of places in and around the city that are almost exclusive to certain groups. Mostly because they are/were immigrants and are adjusting.

A good way to adjust is to ignore the common culture of the area along with the language!

Good for you - I see people coming to my school to get their children enrolled - not knowing any English at all. They don't TRY to learn it either. You CAN'T relate your area to mine - what's teh Hispanic population percentage? How many are coming a year? More questions need to be asked. Spanish is about as common, if not more common, around here than English. Learning Spanish can be more useful than English.
