I've been struggling with a lot in my life since summer, maybe even since spring, and I don't want to just be self-diagnosing or crying for attention, but I think something might be really wrong with me.

So I'm going to try to make myself to in to my Counseling and Health Center at my college to see someone, but right now my two main questions are:

1) What will they do if I admit that I've thought about and attempted suicide?  I'm just worried that they'll involve the cops or make me go in an institution or otherwise invade my life.

2) What will they do if I admit I use illegal drugs?  Things are complicated by the fact that I've been smoking a lot of weed the past month or two, so I've been better able to cope with everything else in my life, but when I stop I crash pretty hard...

i am pretty sure that they will get other people involved. most likely family to let them know that you are at risk.

Every time I've tried to kill myself I've told my psychiatrist and she didn't do anything about it. I frequently think about suicide and she knows it. I also tell her I abuse drugs and she does nothing. It really depends on who you are telling. If it's a school counselor, they will most likely tell on you. But if it's a private psychiatrist, they probably won't say anything as long as you convince them it's really okay, you just need to talk about it. If they are convinced you might actually kill yourself they might admit you to the hospital. Also with the drugs, if you are doing drugs like heroin and stealing from people they might want to send you to some program.

Depends how old you are.
They'll advise you to tell your parents and friends/teachers about the suicidal thoughts but if your over 16 they can't tell them for you.

And weed isn't really a hard drug, so, they'll definitely give you a load of phone numbers and probably suggest you see a Dr. I don't know whether or not they will call the police about the weed, they may have to. But don't let that put you off, they'll wanna help you get off it, not punish you.

Ok, thanks for the replies.

I probably won't tell them about that stuff then, not unless I know they'll keep it confidential.  I don't want to make their jobs harder or anything, but I don't want to get in trouble.

It really depends on who you go to. The school will probably involve themselves as compared to more of the home-based councelors. It's kind of dumb that you could get in trouble for confessing to make yourself feel better, huh? I wish you luck, though.
