I had a panic attack earlier, and I got this stabbing pain in my chest. It happened yesterday when I had one too, and is really scary.

For those who have panic/anxiety attacks, do you get chest pains? Do you think it's worth going to the doctor about? I'm pretty sure my parents would refuse to take me.

Yes, during a panic attack, chest pains are fairly normal. You should talk to your doctor, anyway, because these attacks could be more than anxiety.

You should see a doctor.

In order to be diagnosed as having panic attacks I think you need to have more than 8 episodes in less than a month; thought having one REAL ONE once in a while can be dangerous depending on what the symptoms of it are.

My girlfriend used to have panic attacks exactly the same as that which you describe - chest pain. The following is taken from a self-help guide which we found a couple of years ago on the internet.

"Chest Pain
Caused by muscle tension, chest pains can make you feel very scared. The initial reaction of anyone with anxiety who gets pains in their chest is that they are dying of a heart attack. This is not true. Heart pain is very different to this pain and very often does not start in the chest. Deep breathing and relaxation exercises are a very effective way of diminishing these unpleasant symptoms. If you can get somebody to massage your upper back, shoulders and chest, it will help to relax tired and achy muscles."

I will PM you the entire self-help guide but, I suggest you read it over with your closest friend, so they can help you if when you have another attack.
